ive made it out of some nasty, sticky mudholes that just pop up while riding near the beach...you can make it through...but just gotta keep it pinned in a high gear so it doesnt bog...and you can creep out. it feels actually kinda sweet, i had to ride through a really deep and sticky crap...had it pinned in 4th or 5th...the rear end would rise and fall a little while moving through it slowly...

I have been riding quads for almost 20 years (next summer!!) and dirtbikes for almost a week. I just picked up an older 94 RM 250 with a pipe and RAD valve, and I fell off that thing more in 2 days then I've ever fallen off quads. Its my own fault, a rookie doing donuts in sand, getting hung up in ruts, or falling on the down hillside of a pit wall. Luckily, I was going slow so there was absolutely no damage to me or my bike on any spill. I've ridden a GSXR since I bought one new in 02, but that still doesn't help my dirtbike skills.
I must say, I have a built Quadzilla, but this bike is tons more thrilling to ride. After awhile the newness will wear off, but right now I get a permagrin everytime I ride it. But as far as what's safer, I say a quad. But for fun, I gotta say a dirtbike for now.

Sounds like a okay deal to me.
But for my first bike i would go with a CR250F the fourstroke has a lot more torque. With a 125cc two-troke bikes you need to keep them in the pipe pretty much all the time ti make any real power. They don't lug very well. But if you think you can keep it in the pipe most of the time there a sweet ride. any of the 125's are fun. the 05 YZ125 I've been told is the fastest 125 out there right now. if you're going to trail ride the XR250 is nice so is the TTR250. Depends if you need motocross grade performance
