686 Raptor VS YFZ450
..............Well, I had a raptor and I ride with a buddy that has a raptor 686. The 686 did indeed beat my stock yfz, BUT, I added the exhaust, intake, cammod and jetting, and can beat em now. The 686's wont holeshot a yfz, unless you do have a extended swingarm, then maybe, but I have never seen one with a swingarm take on a yfz.
So, in answer to the question, yes, a 686 should beable to beat a stock yfz, especially topend. Do normal mods to a yfz though, and notta. I am running a 15 tooth front sprocket (+1) full exhaust, intake and webb cams, and have also lost quit a bit of weight off the bike, and absolutely have no problem with a 686. Yfz's are fast, thats why I no longer have a raptor.

My buddy and I both had Raptors. We went back and forth trying to decide if we should sell the raps and buy the 450. I decided that I could set my Rap up exactly the way I want for less money than selling and buying a 450...which would be about 3K. I spent about $1500 on the 686, new plastic and front end.
My buddy decided to sell the Rap and buy the 450. He weighs about 20 lb less than me...so he is fast on that thing. All he will ever do is pipe it.
As long as I can stay in front of him, I am happy. Now, I am only taking him by about a quad length...so I am worried...but my motor hasn't broke in yet.

I've yet to have a problem with a YFZ yet on the 300ft drag track with my 686.
I'm not saying YFZ's are quick or fast, but locally they haven't been quick enough. I'm looking really hard at adding a YFZ to my stable, and make it full drag like the Raptor. But I'm holding back for the Zuki.....

i own booth so here is a straight answer. my 686 against my wifes 450 with full exhaust and filter are dead even. it sucks that its just as fast for about a third of the money. the 450 is alright in the sand but we fight over who gets to ride the raptor. it has a softer ride and handles better plus reverse. one thing to keep in mind the rap has a plus axle and a-arms with works shocks. the power band is awesome on the 450 but it is to damn rough.

MasterRaptor-I have raced quite a few 450s with the pipe and the cam on my 690 and in 300 feet i am usually taking them by about two or three quad lengths. These races are all on sand and uphill so its not exactly like your situation but it should give you an idea of where another 690 is.When i race the 450s in a 500 foot race i can take them by even more than a few quad lengths but i will admit that i have raced a couple of the big bore yfzs and they can hang right there with me and a couple have beat me but not by much.My 690 is built about as far as i care to go with it and right now i am going from 11:1 to 12.5:1 so that should help even more and i added the six six t adaptor to flow more air and fuel so my 690 should do better with the big bore yfzs.I should add that i outweigh most riders by quite a margin at 230lbs so my performance would be even better if a lighter rider were aboard. You will only get faster as you break your motor in so you should see good gains from where you are at just from that.
