Default Modded YFZ vs Modded Raptor

I find it odd, that everytime a post comes up about who's faster... it's always the Rap owners that say they are... and the yfz guys that say they are... and then there's the random Polaris guy that throws in his two cents... and finally, there's all of the guys that own both the yfz and the rap, and always say the yfz is faster.... Why do you think this is??

Is it the mods? Is it the tweaking?

anyone? anyone?

My Raptor has never lost a race to a YFZ ,450r, or 440ex

Its cause people wont accept the fact that they came out with a new, faster quad. You know how much technology was put into the yfz, you know how little there is in a raptor. I think it is kinda funny that people still think that the raptor is king of the hill as a high performance quad. Its a well known fact that it isnt. YOu know, I must admit, that I had a pretty big chip on my shoulder about my raptor when I first started using this forum. Having a chip oin your shoulder and being ignorant and stuborn will only get you so far. Now it takes people like myself and "performance" and many others that own both quads to get the facts straight. YOu think were going to dawg on one of our own machines.
I am going to own whatever quad is the king of the hill, and right now, the yfz is. Every shootout I have read, when it came to performance, the yfz won by leeps and bounds. The yfz is on top right now, get over it. Maybe suzuki, or honda wil get there act together and top it (then I'll own that), and yfz dudes will still be saying how they have the best quad! Im sure the same raptor dudes will be too!!
Raptors are not in the same league as yfz's, and its no fair to the raptor to compare the two. One is a race quad, the other is a sport/trail quad. There is nothing wrong with that. I love both machines for there differences, but when it comes to maximum performance, both handling and power/speed, the yfz wins hands down, there is absolutely know comparison.
As far as broot torque, and tight hill climbs and such, to me, you cant beat the raptor, cause it does have so much lowend. YOu also cant beat the fact that the raptor is far more comfortable for trails, has reverse, and in most cases a farther range. I ride both quads and love both quads, and will disagree with any one on here saying that the raptor is faster or a better performance quad then the yfz...............who are you trying to kid..........yourself!!!!!

I'll agree that stock vs stock or pipe vs pipe a 450 is probly a little quicker, but in my experience no lightly modded yzf is going to content with a well built big bore raptor.

As long as it's a straight line contest, the more money you put into the Raptor, the further it leaves the YFZ in the dust. The opposite is not true, a modified YFZ motor cannot make the same kind of HP as a modified Raptor motor without a power adder (turbo, NO2, Nitro).

I can't help but comment on a couple of things said by 135boom.

What technology? Do you mean performance parts? The YFZ contains nothing that hasn't been being put into Raptors, Baja's, 400ex's, Z400's and any other fourstroke as aftermarket parts. There is no new fuel injection system or combustion monitoring system or anything that could be considered "new technology". The YFZ is simply a four stroke which came from the factory pre-modified. In fact, considering it has a high compression piston, factory porting, flat side carb, etc... the only thing to set it apart from most 440ex's is its shocks.

According to whom? It seems to me that this is an undecideable question. The question instead should be, which bike is more suitable for my needs. Me being the person buying it. Certainly to the MXer, the YFZ450 would dominate as the superior bike while to the drag racer, provided he wanted a four stroke, the Raptor would surely remain the obvious choice.

Try ATV Sport this month. It contains a dune shootout. The Raptor took first. It has been one of several in the last year to place the raptor ahead of the YFZ.

For those of us who have frequented this forum long enough to see the rise and fall of different bikes and watch the hype of their superiority follow, we know that this is merely the first descent in the blind arguement that comes with the introduction of every new sport bike. We have seen similar fates befall the banshee, the warrior, the suzuki quadzilla and quadracer, the 400ex, the Raptor, the bombardier, the Cannondale, and now the YFZ450 and 450R. The story never changes, only the model being argued over. It can surely be inferred that upon the introduction of the next high performance quad, a huge drop in approval will plague the YFZ lovers as admiration shifts to the newer bike. Then, as the new wears off, those who truly love the YFZ shall return to defend their favorite model much as those fans of the previous models have.

I'm not picking on you boom; you just brought up some points I felt inclined to address.

Happy Riding to all.

Very wisely stated HoundDog. This is the era of the 450. It wont be long until a new bike is released and becomes the latest and greatest machine of all time.

The most technologically advanced part of the yfz is the dohc setup, which has been part of japanese machinery for decades.
