Default Octane?

Any opinions on low or high octane gas?

My '02 Kodiak is in the dealer for running rough (stalling, popping/backfiring) until it's driven for 20 minutes...then fine. The dealer blamed leaving gas in the bike (93 octane with stabilizer). They said evaporation occured in the carb???

They also said, with this low compression engine, that the slower burning fuel was a waste and I was loosing power especially on the high end. True? I have no problem using cheaper gas if this is what it wants!

Any advice? Additives, fuel filter?

Thanks, Rico

Welcome to the forums! For one think i think every quad should have a fuel filter so i'd get that done... But i suggest draining the gas a putting some fresh gas in (93Oc shouldn't be a problem) if you havn't done so... Do that and see if that does it

93 is overkill on a kodiak. regular 87 octane should be fine and unless the machine is setting for long periods of time you shouldnt have to add any stabilizers or additives either. I would add the fuel filter and check your jetting. Also clean the carbs out.
