Got a weird problem with the rappy. Got the Edelbrock carb on and WOW, whoever said it wont feed a 686 was wrong, maybe. Here is the problem. Take off and it screams through third gear. Fourth gear does just as good, except when it is really winding up it starts to act funny. Starts bogging and cutting out. Go into fifth and it gets worse. Right from the getgo it starts bogging and popping and wont clear up. Shut it off immediatly and the porcelein is pure white and the electrode is tan with the threads alittle black. What do you guys think the problem is? I have taken the needle up to a 24, stock is 17. Midrange seems perfect and this only happens under racing (WOT the whole time ). Thanks

The Edelbrock has no jets. Top end is done with the needle and midrange is fixed with adjusting the height of the needle. Somewhere the accelerator pump works, think that is bottom end only though. The thing that is funny is I got this carb off a friend that had a 686 11:1 with a Webb cam, alba pipe and prodesign air intake. Also had a dyna ignition. He had the 22 needle in his and it never did this. The biggest needle I have is a 25.

Spoke to Edelbrock today, they think I may be running out of fuel on the top end, like the carb bowl is going dry. I can buy that, what do you guys think?

You are running out of juice. During DS Days at Sand Mountain, I experienced the same and couldn't figure out why. I discovered later that I was consuming more gas than the gravity feed could physically provide, especially when NOS kicked in. I went to a Pingle dual petcock and it all ironed out. Careful not to install a fuel pump though, it'll unseat your float S/O valve every time and then it'll really run like crap. Good luck.
