Default Ice Racers Please Read!!

I am going to be starting ice racing this winter and i just had a few questions about tire sizes. I am going to be going with the cheng sing ice tire along with kold kutter studs(i think). should i stick w the 20" tire on the rear or should I drop to an 18" tire. Also what rim size should i run. I will be buying an ice tire package w .125 aluminum rims. How many studs per lug should I be putting in and how long of studs..thank you very much..also if i change the rear to an 18" what should I go w on the front tires?? The available "rear" tire and rim package sizing are as follows :

18/9.5/8
20/11/8
20/11/9
20/11/10

My mods and setup are below in my signature. Any other setup tips for ice racing would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again

It depends on what kind of track you are going to be racing on. If its a short track you will want the 18's. If its a 1/2 mile or bigger you will want the top end of the 20's.

Check your pm's.

the lower to the ground the better... even if the straits are long id run the 18's... unless they are really long... like 250ft plus...
1 stud per lug is all you need... its about 650 studs for 1 rear 18 inch tire... trust me... i studded 3 sets over the winter... that sucked...
the .125's are fine... but we bumped alot and those rims just crumbled...
as for fronts... the holeshots or razrs are excelent... u can just stud the middle row of tread and they work mint.

That might be ok for playing around on a pred, but if you are going to be seriously racing a raptor you need a lot more grip than one stud per **** on a set of 18's.

i ran high psi in them... the side screws never touched.
those cheng shings were on a yfz, 450r and a shee.... 1 stud per **** is all that will fit... they are a tiny tread... smaller than a turf tamer.

Thanks, I know about cheng shins. I've been running them since the late 80's. And they will fit much more than one per lug...

yfz, 450r and a shee live on wheel spin. the yfz and shee are high rev engines that like tire spin. the r needs less traction to cope with its low end gearing issues.

much more than 1 per lug??? right... how many do you fit? the lug is like 1/2x3/8 if that. 1 screw in the middle in sufficent. more than 1 per lug gets very exspensive... its 650 per 18' tire with 1 in each.... 2 would be 1300... and you fit "many more" so your looking at what 2400 per tire? not everyone has that much money to blow on studs... its about 50$ per 1000 for the kind we get... so thats 250$ just for the rears they way you say u do it... then another 50 for the fronts...
