Do aftermarket filters (k&n, uni....) use the guide & plate from the stock filter system?

I'm "restoring" an 01 and the air box was completely empty when I bought it. Just wondering if I need to buy the guide and plate in order to use aftermarket filters....

Not sure what you mean exactly by the "guide plate" but the pro design kits use the stock airbox and mount to the same place as the oem filter, just with a billet adapter. You can get kits that eliminate the airbox as well. PM sixsixt if you are interested in the latter.

 

I'm not sure either since the box was empty when I got the quad... On the microfiche there were 3 peices to the stock filter and thats what they were called.

Doesn't matter...I bought the prodesign adapter with the foam filter (which by the way uni makes prodesigns foam filters). Found it on line for $89.

The UNI does use the stock guide plates, not sure about the K&N though.

 

K&N makes one that will fit in stock place but you should go with the pro design adaptor or no box adaptors. You will want to later any ways.
