I think you will find that even though the 250 2-strokes have much more power than the 125's, they are easier to ride. The 125s are too snappy and have almost no torque, it seems like they require more effort to be ridden hard and fast. The 250s have a smoother powerband and much more torque than a 125.

When talking about the 125 class, yes, the 250 four strokes are worlds better. The 250 class is more of a toss up, the 450's seem to have an advantage on the outdoor nationals, but everybody likes the 250s for supercross.

I would definitely recomend the yz250f. It is a great bike, tons of power for trails or motocross. I ride a factory racing one and it rips!

i agree with Vinson581, i basically learned on a 250, if you get a 1250 or some 4 stroke you will get used to the bike soooo fast and want more power and you will wind up selling it. No Dout it takes a longer time to get used to a 250 but once you do you'll love it. Trust me i rode Vinson581's 250 and i can't get off it, its so nice!! And it really is in MINT condition. So maybe you should consider a 250....

Soon as you get your YZ 125 or 250 or even there 450....Word of advice don't go racing against a KTM 525sx or 525mxc or 525exc you'll regret that you bought a 450 when you could of gotten something bigger for the same price of even cheaper. 04 KTM 525sx $5500.00 and it is a beast my friend!!!!!!!!!!! I was getting a YZF 450 or CRF450, but when I read about those KTMs...well the rest is history!!!

I pretty much switched to bikes and havent looked back. The quads are dune toys now....but bikes are a blast in the dunes too

!!!WARNING!!!

Do not buy a brand new 2-stroke dirtbike, the value will drop 2 grand as soon as you take it out of the dealer. The only exception is if it is a 03' model or lower left over cheap!

I am buying a 2-stroke dirtbike myself, I usually buy new, but you can get them so cheap it isn't even funny. I found a $CR250 for $2500 Im looking at now.

I agree get a bike thats a couple years old.
They drop in value very fast in the first couple years then they seem to level off.

I'm slowly moving over to dirt bikes and haven't looked back.

My favorite forum for dirt bikes is dirtrider.net
