What do dealers actually have to do when they get a new wheeler in a crate? Is there a lot of work to do to go from crate to a rideable wheeler?
The reason I ask is 1st: They charge around $300 dollars for dealer prep. I've been working on wheelers for many moons and I would actually rather do it myself. 2nd: I, like a few of you, are worried that my dealer, and every Tom, Dick, and Harry that he happens to know on a first name basis are going to **** pound my "new" raptor before they even tell me that it is in.

Do you think a dealership would allow someone to pick up a raptor still in the crate? (besides, mine is ~500 miles from where I live, and is probably going to get shipped. thats what I get for waiting to sell my Banshee!)

I've watched a dealer remove a quad from the crate . They come with the wheels off and the handle bars turned down. All they do is have some 16-year old kid install the wheels, turn the bars up, add fluids and wash it. They probably won't let you take delivery in a crate because the $300 is mostly profit. I'm a little bitter on this point because the dealer I bought my son's Blaster from over torqued and stripped the wheel studs and airbox screws so I couldn't get the lid off. Oh...and they forgot to oil the air filter. Not only to they charge too much, they don't even do it right.

No way...it is just another way for a little extra cash for the dealer. Besides, if they did'nt it would just give them another loophole to wiggle through when / if there are problems with the machine. I don't like the though of the "good-ol-boys" at the dealership riding the **** out of my ride either. A good inspection of the machine is definately in order before finishing paperwork on the machine.

I totally agree with you Gary,

I better not find out that someone at my dealership is "beating" on my machine. I will be very angry. Although, I've done business in the past with this dealership, they have been nothing less than excellent to me and my friends, so I shouldn't have a problem. And it comes to find out, if my dealership has a deposit on a machine, the dealer will conveniently put the machine in the back so knowone sits on it.
