Default hi-comp piston

Im thinking about installing a high compression piston, and cam in my 01 Rappy over the winter. However, i dont want to compromise reliability. I would appreciate any feedback from anyone who has done this to their machines, and the brand of piston, and cam you guys run. Thanks in advance.

From what people say, one of the best setups for power/reliabilty is a stage 1 hotcam with a 11:1 piston. The cam isnt very extreme so stock valve spring will work. People have said 11:1 JE's have a weak spot and they fail sometimes, im sure others have JE and they work fine. I have a wiesco 11:1 with a web cam, and havnt had any reliability issues yet. I have had this setup for about 18 months without any problems with the engine. Power gain is huge, you will love it if you do it.

IMO bypass the stage one cam.....go straight to the stage 2 or get one of the smaller web cams.........I have had both hot cams and now on my second web cam.....
stage 2 hot cam is a great trail cam....tons of midrange power and it pulls a little farther than stock........
I think stock bore high compression with a stage 2 hot cam would be a great combination.......one of my friends is about to do that same mod very soon.......

Hey bigscary which webcams have you tried? How do they each compare to the stage 2 hotcam? Would you go with the stage 2 hotcam instead of any of the webcams?

IMO...before you do anything...I would check your rod for wear....You will just be throwing good money after bad if your rod is worn..your build won't last long at all and hope that your 01 tranny is up to snuff... Also...if you go with the stage 2 cam, you'll probably need some heavy duty valve springs and a port and polish to boot, then you have to hope your valves aren't cupped....alot more to it than just throwing in a piston and a cam....

Bosch, yes you do have to rejet.

Big scary, I did that combination and it runs very well. I needed the midrange and a little more top end for flattrack, cant wait to try it out this winter. Thanks for the cam btw!

The stage one is great for trails and is about half the price by skipping out on the valve springs. If you need the extra power of a stage 2 or webcam though, go for it now.
