Why don't manufacturers list the horsepower and torque on the spec list on there websites?

You'd think that would be just as important as knowing how many watts the headlights were.....

Umm, because they dont have to...

You only need to list hp specs for on road vehicles because they have to be registered for on road use in your state. The off road vehicles are typically not permitted to perform on road, so no need for hp specs. If you notice, when you register an atv for on road use in one of these states that allows it, they want a hp rating...

Just thought I'd ask...

It was more of a complaint than a question.

They dont have to put the headlight wattage either, but they do.

IMO i think they dont put the hp and torque on the sites because alot of people would choose the quad compared to the torque and hp listed on the manufacturers websites, just a guess.

Actually headlight wattage is an important comparison to consumers because they want to know how powerful the headlight(s) are for low light and night time use.

That's the best you could come up with to refute my statement?

BTW, polaris does make hp claims. The problem is that they are lying out of thier butt and the rest of the companies are smart enough not to get into that kind of a "numbers" race when it is so meaningless as a comparison.

I think they should sometimes maybe to show parents who are buying their 12 - 15 year old son or daughter a bigger high performance quad that they do have over 30 horse power, and are more dangerous.

Just a thought.

Jibrille,

Parents are supposed to be buying quads between 50 and 90cc for kids 12-15 and all of them are governed and detuned to low speeds.

I agree that this is a silly expectation for a 15 year old kid to ride a 90, but thats a different argument.

I know what you mean maddog, but most parents ignore it, actually I think I know of one parent that actually follows the age restrictions.

I'm just figuring if a parent perhaps were to ignore it, they might buy their child a Raptor 350 or 300ex instead of the 450s or big bore quads, knowing the hp differences rather then looking at "Hey, they look the same size.. etc"
