kodiak 450 -fuel

I prefer to stop to lock the diff. Yes you CAN shift on the fly but I feel like it's hard on the machine.
This kodiak consumes WAY less fuel than my p650 does. Granted the p650 has been rejetted with some performance goodies on it, the kod fuel gauge barely moved the other day, and the prairie had definitely used more. Maybe its because it's just so much fun to gun the prairie and hang on, or because I'm still taking it easy on the kodiak breaking it in. Either way, maybe something's up with the gauge, because the kod sure seems good on gas to me.. I also ride in 2wd most of the time. 4x4 sucks it up like none other.

thanks folks,
good to know that it is in fact the fuel gauge being on the conservative side.....
may be yamaha wants us to go and refuel a bit sooner before we actually run out of gas.
I guess , I have to keep running it in the "ON" positon and see how long it will actually go after the gauge shows empty, than I can switch to reserve to make it back to the truck and refuel .
I think it is a float type , simple fuel gauge......those can be recalibrated/adjusted.
it is a minor thing to worry about, and it is actually better this way.... I would not want it to show a half tank and actually have 1 pint left.

But i wonder about the Electronic fuel gauge.... the grizz has it... i am wondering if we hook up the right sensor... could our displays use the electronic meter? i have asked that question to my local Yamaha dealer and his going to check into it for me...

Misery Machine, I think the electronic display on the Kodiak will show the fuel level but I dont think there is a sensor
in the tank for it.
If you look at your display in the right lighting, you can see the fuel level indicator on the right side.

no problem.... i thought i read somewhere on the net, Yamaha was saying the 450 kodiak was going to have the electronic fuel gauge... come to think of it, i think it mentioned it in my user manual as well.... because i thought they were making this one identical to the grizz but smaller.... anyways polaris did the same thing to my buddies, they have polaris 500 sportmans, and they say in their manuals they are supposed to have electronic fual gauges too, but nothing...
I am not sure what kind of sensor they need, and how it wires up to the LCD, but i will find out one way or another... because i think that would be a wicked feature to have... and i will let you guys know what Yamaha tells me.
