Water in crankcase
#1
Hello to all!!,a newbie here.Heres my problem, went riding some trails with 3 friends came across a small river a guy on the trail turned around said his blaster could not make it his buddy on his newer foreman just got stuck halfway through anyway, my friend whent first on his 98 beartracker 2wd with a flat left rear tire went through no problem,i get halfway through and my 2004 kodiak 4x4 atv will not movejust revving when i hit throttle friend behind me goes around me on his 2000 grizzly with big tire kit no problem it was alittle under knee high in depth,I'm 5'11'' so anyways we push it to the otherside and pull drain plug on crankcase after revving alittle while it starts to crawl and after awhile longer its back to normal and running great. My questions are does this happen alot to newer atvs,is it a bad seal around case?are there any vent hoses or intake lines that could take in water. What can I do to prevent it next time I go back to cross. Thanks Joe

Yes there are vents in the front under your rack and in the rear under your rack. The only way to keep water from getting into it is 1) not go thru water that goes over your rack or 2) snorkle your clutch case which is what I did. It is not difficult but is a pain in the butt if you have not done it before. You will see a black plastic tube under the fron rack and a black plastic tube out the rear of your bike. Both have to be snorkled in order for you to go thru water over your racks. Also you want to make sure that you got out all the water from your clutch case otherwise you will be buying another very expensive belt. If water sits in that case the belt will start to swell and break down, then while riding BOOM it will go so take care of that belt.
