Default raptor one-way installation problem

I just installed a new LA designs one-way for my 01 raptor and when I fired it up it ran rough and the starter went bad after starting it a few times. I took the starter out and it turned both ways and you could hear junk rattling around inside of it. Thinking that it might have been the starter I put a new one in and it went bad after starting the raptor a few times. Could I have done something wrong in installing my one-way that could cause this?

Yes, I got rid of the old pice, You have to unbolt it to bolt the new one up. The old one came out in one piece.

Take off the starter cover plate and make sure you put the gears on right. See if they turn when you move the bike back and forth in gear?? It sure does sound like something was missed or you didnt tighten up the bolts on the one way?? Let us know what you find out ok.

Your saying that after the new one way install your old starter went bad. You put a new/different starter in and now that starter is bad? The noises you hear are in the starter itself not in the motor?

Default raptor one-way installation problem

I installed the starter gears in the right way because they can only go in one way. The noises I hear are the motor running funny. It kinda chugs like a train. The only thing I can think off is that I tightened the crank bolt to tight since I didn't have a good torque wrench. I didn't know if this could cause that or not. The starter doesn't make any noises until the relay starts buzzing because it's bad. Then when you take the starter off it's all screwed up and you can hear stuff shaking around inside.

Has anyone heard of anything like this?

I dont think tightening it to tight will do this, I put mine on with an impact wrench and it worked fine. I would see if you didnt put the stator on right or you have some arching in there causing the one way to go back and forth to knock out the starter..... I honestly really dont have an answer for you and your probably going to have to take it apart to see what is wrong.

Thanks for your help. I'm going to try and take it back apart this weekend to see what the deal is. How would you check the stator out to see if it is arching?
