banshee air fuel question

i have an 97 banshee motor that is bored 20 over with i believe 270 jetted carbs that is what it says oon the bottom of the main jet, reed spacers, k&n air filter and stock exhaust. had it running great had to take the air box lid off for it to go dont know why but the manual says to turn the pilot air screw two turns out should i keep it two turns out in my situation. and i recently removed my air filter while the quad was running it back fired now it wont start. help

Dont run it with no filter. And the back fire is a lean condition. The air screws should be adjusted to you mods, elevation, and temperature. So nobody could give you a correct answer. Just run it 1 turn out then 1 1/4 turns out then 1 1/2 turns out ......... till you get to 2 1/2 turns out. See where it runs best at.

2 turns out is for stock intake and exhuast with a stock pilot jet (25), if your running a 270 main jet I would start off adjusting 1/8 turn clockwise at a time to get a no bog off idle take off from first gear from idle to 1/4 throttle position.

Yes a timing can case a backfire but I have never had or herd of a rich condion causing one. I had a lean condition once and when I would go it would make a hugh back fire. Definetly not a crackle. for me atleast.

You have a timeing plate that is behind your flywheel. If it is stock the timing is fine. If you have a aftermarket plate or key then you might have to much. The only other way it could be off is if you crank is starting to seperate because of increased compression of mods. Or maybe one to many street hole shots.
