JETTING
#1
I dont know if my 02 raptor is jetted or not. It has a pipe on it and a proflow K and N filter. I keep the lid on and a snorkel. i dont know how to tell if i should rejett or not.
what i did was changed the sparkplug and ran the quad for about 5 min, then i took the plug out and checked the color. It was a very dark brown. I know that the optimum color is a tan. but with this coloring on the plug do i need to rejett and is there any other way to tell if i need to rejett?
By the way . the quad runs really well. no backfiring or chugging. seems strong so far.

Tan to chocolate brown is correct. If the plug is dark brown then you're on the rich side of having it jetted correctly. That is good in my book cause the motor runs a little cooler. As long as the quad doesn't sputter when the throttle is held wide open for a couple of seconds your not too rich. Don't get the sputtering be confused with the rev limiter kicking in though. Hope this helps.

Plug could be dark for many reasons. Unless you installed a new or clean plug, did a top end run and shutoff, and then looked at the plug you cant go off the reading.
If it backfires, its lean. If it bogs anywhere in the rev range, its rich. You need to open the carb up and see what you have in it for jets and tune it accordingly.
