I use the 20 - 40 for all my bikes and have tried other brands as well and the transmission/clutch dont shift well with other brands. Beleive me, I have tried other brands and just kept with Yamalube.

I put Honda oil on it, because there was no Ymalube left ( back then when i bought in the dealer), and there seem to be no problem, It felt the same.

The weather is a little colder over here in NJ would that make a difference or.. would 20w 40 be fine.. if i ride in the snow it might be as cold as around 5 degrees

You can also use many automotive filters for your bike like the Boch #3300 or the Super Tech #6607 from walmart and it is only like $2 I personslly use Hi Flo filters they are the manufacturer for yamaha filters and are like half the cost . I think i paid like $6 at dennis kirk atv.com . For oil i also recomend using the Yamalube and i also get mine at rocky mountain in the value pack!
