I just rebuilt the top end on my banshee. I put in Vitto's pistons, a cool head and new reeds. But now only the right side piston is firing. I pulled the carbs, cleaned them up really good, made sure that the jetts were clear, and put it back together. That may have helped a little, but I'm still on one piston. When it starts to get into the powerband, the left side starts to kick in, but when I come out of the powerband, the left side dies again.
Any ideas what this could be? Bad coil?

thank for your help

-Josh

Just diagnosed the same problem on my brother-in-law's Banshee(97). Did an ignition check and found that the plug caps were faulty. So bad in fact, that his bike was difficult to start and wouldn't hold an idle. When he forced a low idle the right side would fire and the left wouldn't. When he raised the idle higher the left side would fire and the right wouldn't. Put my plug caps on his bike and it ran perfectly. Checked mine (94) and my other brother-in-law's Banshee(95) and found that we both had out of spec plug caps, although not as bad as the 97. You will need a multimeter to check them. Ideal is 5 ohms resistance.

A friend's banshee did similar things, and his problem was a plugged silencer.

Thanks for your replies. I disconnected that TORS crap right after I got the bike. My brother had trouble with his, so I disconnected mine also. The pipes are clear. There are no restrictions there. And I did make sure to put the slides back in the carbs on the same side as they came out. Again, my brother had problems with that a few years ago, so we made sure they went in the right way. I picked up a new coil, and spark plug caps, so I'll replace that this weekend and hope it fixes the problem. It is a '92, so there's a good chance it went bad. Either way, I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks again

I changed the coil, and it made no diffrence, then I changed the spark plug caps, and it seemed to get a little better, but still mainly one one piston. Then just opened it up down the beach and back, and it cleared up. It's back on both cylenders running great!
