Raptor with self starting problems???
#1
So my raptor auto starts as soon as the (+,-) cables are connected any clue why? I have checked as much wire as I can find on the bike and I am coming up with nothing. There seems to be no stripped wires. I just thought I might not be the only one to have had this problem if you have any seggestions let me know.

what is the background on the bike?
Did it just start doing this for no reason?
Did you rewire the bike?
sounds like your hot wire is going straight to the starter and not thru the ignition 1st

Well it just got taken apart not to long ago to have a cam/port job with a new 11.1 piston as well but it started doing it about 3 days into breaking it in. THe bike just died the would not start well then I checked the battery and about the time I touched the (+) it tried starting then made the terminals hot. the bike started then it just kept going (like the starter never stopped starting) you could hear it still spinning as I drove it like 50 feet to the house and killed it. Since then It's live as soon as you touch the terminal even with the switch off and the key out... Sound odd?

i would start by taking the swithch on the handlebars apart and inspecting it
i clean mine all the time cause i have trouble with it not starting due to dirty contacts on the red switch
but i dont have to worry about that right now cause my one way bearing is completely gone
went out this weekend at little sahara
yeah it sucked
if that doesnt help trace the wires back and make sure thet no wires are naked or chfed and touching the frame or anything else that shouldnt happen
hope that helps

I'm gonna take a guess and say you have a fused starter relay, that shorts out. I would start checking there, pull the 20amp fuse out and see if it still starts, if so the relay is fried for sure!!

Sometimes in cars the starter itself shorts, maybe that happened.

It's probably a pinched wire in the handel bar area, or welded contacts on the start switch, (I had to replace one of my switch asemblies for same reason), or the starter solenoid is welded or shorted together...
DO you have an ohmeter, voltameter...wiring diagram from manual....
or maybe just take to dealer,....they can figure it out for less than an hour's service charge.....
