off comes the head I guess

I'll let you know what I find

sixsixt, when you say "jumped time",,,,do you mean the chain hopped a tooth?

I will answer for him Bing. thats what he means. Kinda sounds allot like your timing is off to me aswell. check that before ya go rippin it all apart agin [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img] I would come over and tinker with ya, but IM WORKIN [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif[/img] *sniffle* spin it around to TDC and check your timing mark.

Default Raptor top end troubles (decompression)

At TDC(flywheel mark), where should the cam sprocket be

The head cover is removed,,,,the chain doesnt seem to be stretched (adjuster wasnt too far in)

i dont have a manual

rockers and all look fine

just need help dialing in the timing

my timing is off

Raptor Manual start @ page 202 (PDF) section 5-22 in the manual......good luck

thanks daddybig,

upon further inspection,,,it wasnt my timing or chain

(im hopping this is what it was,,,being so simple and all)

the decompression mechanism on these things uses counterweights and slots that rotate a shaft that rides inside the cam, opening and closing the decompression pin which hits the rocker on one of the valves

seems when my motor bound,,,,it knocked the pins out of allignment with the counterweights,,,,so the engine was always decompressing,,,instead of only at very low rpm's

the clack clack i heard must have been the pin constantly slamming the rocker at higher rpms


god,,,,i hope im right here,,,,everything looks great otherwise

That sounds logical and if that's what happened there's not much of a chance of bent valves.
