is first gear tall like on most sport quads where u have to rev it higher to not stall or does the raptor rev lower so it would be good on tight trails

1st gear is pretty high, but the raptor has so much tourqe you barley have to rev it all at. It is awsome for the trails.

Your main concern should be if the transmission can handle the power. And 3500 isnt all that good of a deal, unless you live in cali. Make sure the shifting is smooth and crisp.

The raptor has no lack of torque to put around through the trails, but the 01 did have a higher 1st gear ratio than subsequent model years. A simple sprocket change can easily resolve any issues you have with low speed cruising and starting. The powerband does not have anything like the hit of the banshee, which it sounds like you are describing.

Be careful if your on the pavement or not in the sand becuase if you pop off the clutch you can easily find yourself laying on your back if the tires grab. Excelent ride though, wouldn't trade mine for anything
