Has any one had any problems with painting their machines, and than going through the brush... Scratches.. I want to paint my machine but people have told me that I won't be impressed with the results. can anybody give some feed back.

 

Depends what you mean by "painting my machine"? Are talking about painting the plastic or painting the metal parts? Painting the plastic will not hold up to much abuse from bushes, sticks, etc. If you are going to paint the metal parts go with powder coating. It is durable as hell and can really take a beating.

 

if you plan on doing trail riding.... i wouldnt suggest painting! i have mine painted but i only ride in sand....paint on plastic is just like a car but probably even more fragile!

And though some of the paints today can hold up really well (even the old imron will do better than many think if done right, and I know cause I am testing it now and its been great for several rides now) still the powder being softer and how it bakes unto itself etc should still be better for rocks or other hits etc.

Another big thing to think about is the abilities and capital avail from the owner. If your not concerned with $$$ then painting may be a waste cause if your paying someone to do it anyhow powder coating isnt all the much more, and still has its advantages, but if your a painter (body shop etc) and short on cash then grab a good self etching primer and a qt of single stage urethane (what imron really is anyhow) and have at it.

If you are talking about the plastics paint is your only real choice, but there are some wrong ways to do that too, and if like said earlier its for woods riding you got a lot stacked up against you.
