Elka rear shock with linkage question, 02 Raptor
#1
I thought I was buying an Elka rear shock (dual rate) with the Elka linkage for an 02 Raptor. From the emails sent from Elka, I was expecting a dual rate rear shock but was delivered a single rate rear shock. After calling Elka to ask why I got the single rate, they said that they only offer the single rate with the linkage because of characteristics of the linkage and extra travel you get and a bunch of other suspension info I couldn't exactly replicate now from the phone conversation.
Have any of you ordered this Elka shock/linkage setup and gotten a dual rate? Im wondering if they are giving me a line of BS. The following is what Elka sent me as a quote:
REAR SUSPENSION
“Most of our rear shocks offer more wheel travel than the stock units”.
The rear shocks is fully adjustable (compression and rebound) in a remote reservoir.
Dual rate rear shock with a self-sagging device: $820.00US
Raptor linkage: $225.00US, offers 11.4 inches of wheel travel with the Elka rear shock, also gives you more progression thru out the stroke.

They are not feeding you BS. A buddy of mine recently ordered the same set up and thought it would be dual rate and it was only single also. Dont know why a daul rate wont work but thats what they send. And I also read it some where, cant remember where right now. But if I do I will post it. It might have been in their online instructions on how to set up shocks. It is still an SSD shock, ride height adjustable. I will be ordering this set up also very soon.
Found it, it is actually a review for the ex 400 shock and linkage but breifly talks about it. click here

I have a 2002 L.E. Raptor and got the same.
Per Elka, the geometry of the linkage and rear swing-arm of the Raptor makes the need for a dual-rate reat sock not needed. You can put a dual-rate spring set-up in, but would not feel the difference because of the angles and the charecteristics of how the shock and lingage work together.
Hope this helps!

I have the singlerate and the linkage on my raptor. Makes the top part of the stroke really soft with the Bottom being stiff. so there is no need for dual rate cuz it acts that way with a single rate shock.
