the more competition the better

DS might have an edge with the turbos, but the craycraft engines seem to be a work of genius

so they will both be winners in my book

YFZ450kid all a DS owner has to spend is about 125$ to beat most piped and jetted Raptors. stock for stock they dont have to spend a dime. the craycraft and sparks or whoever is building Raptors is another story, but serious coin is spent on either bike, theres a lot of up grades available for the Raptor, for that you're lucky.

DS motor is a Rotax huh? nuff said. If everyone was spending their money on them instead of the yammys youd all be eating their roost.

Yes the ds is a heavy swine, But the motors are good and make good power. The chassy is built like it is going to battle in Iraq. What people like sandbomber and others even myself will is try to get a powerfull built motor in the lightest chassy possible. In 2005 I will have my motor in a full on custom roller drag chassy maybe a bit re-enforced.
The drag chassys cost big big bucks as much TI as possible, But it IS possible to get a ds motor and drag chassy(non oem frame) sitting at about 280-290ish. The set-up will get the power to the ground good and mopp up. Next year (MID) year it will be a whole new ball game. 100 hp and 75 ft lb torq in a light frame will make me happy.

Those turbo's are fast indeed.

I killed him off the line (then again, I think he let me have a head start ) After that he blew by my Pami at mid hill.

Our hill is a long one (Sand Mt. NV)

As for normal competition on any given weekend. . . There's one Raptor that gives me trouble at Sand Mt. (2001Raptor2001 - Steve's got a fast bike for sure.)

As for the competition for you Raptor guys. . .
The newer DS's are faster out of the box than the older ones. Guess it's the weight but, seems to be a good improvement.

For the modified Raptors:
Consider yourself lucky if you only run into a Ron Wood Stage III
The 720's or 730's (whatever you want to call them) are in a whole different world when built with a Race Head, Cams, Carbs, etc.
The 760's, 830's depending on the build of them can be faster or slower than the 720.

AND YES. . .
There are other combinations in the works so, the DS's are getting faster and faster. . .

So, what's coming for the Raptor's?

A turbo craycraft low comp 730 or 740 would be nice Bob Craycraft has shown big numbers and hi revs with his pump gas 730's @ 740's. Drop another point or 2 on the compression and.....

It was not that long ago that raptors were not making power past 7500, Bob has a bunch making peak power over 10,000 rpm's

Got to rev fast and make HP over 10k for those long hill shoots. Reving like a diesel and making power to 7500 will not bring the throphies home.

If KMS does the research and development that Scooby has done that will be wild. So far the KMS have not shown to be reliable or fast yet. There was tons of talk a few months back about the turbo rappy's and pigs but then they got sold or shelved. The king supposedly has a 100 plus hp rappy and sold it. Makes you wonder. Why sella 100 plus hp quad for a 60hp quad? lol
