I was wondering how you change this, and what exactly it does performance wise?

Its verry simple to change it, just take off the chain guard, and its one big nut, you have to take your chain off though, just break the masterlink. Dropping a tooth will give you more acceleration, less top speed and other way around for a added tooth.

This will depend on your chain adjustment. I have switched mine numerous times without taking the chain off.

it will either gear you down (12 tooth) or it will gear you higher (14 tooth)

no need to remove the chain,,,,after all,,,,it keeps the shaft form rotating while you break it loose
