Need help deciding between foam/k&n
#1
Im ordering a pro flow kit and i need help, currently i live in jersey, which is muddy, dusty. Im moving to florida in march and thats mostly sandy, now i heard a k&n is needed in sandy conditions and a foam filter is better for mud conditions, so which route should i go. Get the k&n and deal for a little or buy a foam, and will a foam hold up in florida's sandy dirt conditons?

hey. i live in jersey to. i put a k&n air filter on my blaster and took the air box lid of and i notice a difference. it also sounds good with the filter and no lid. id get the k&n over a foam filter cause u get more air flow. you can also clean k&ns to witch is nice. i got a k&n cause my biks jetted and id get better flow. i dont think it woudl do to bad with mud anyway.... unless you sink it or somethin

I have a stock foam filter on my quad, but the air box lid is still on it so it doesnt matter.
The sand can get pretty bad in some places, but when it rains now you have muddy wet sand and it sux alot. so i say get the k&n.

Yeah i know it sucks, my riding time here is limited because of my injury, so im leaning towards what im going to need in florida. I think im gonna do what you shavo said and get both filters, and just switch it up. Thanks guys

Foam, It will hold up better in the muddy/dusty conditions, and still perform well in sandy. When your comparing K&N vs. Foam your comparing More Airflow vs. Better Filtrations. In Sand, the pieces of debris are much bigger than that you'd find in more dusty enviroments, so you'd choose K&N because it would do the job and flow better. But when your in dusty enviroment the Gauze (which is K&N) might let small pieces in. But due to the foams dual layer it protects better but doesn't flow as well.
Hope that makes sense and helps

the k&n would be better for you for sandy conditions, seeing as how it wont get wet, and its performs better in those conditions... maybe its just me ?

my only beef with k&n is the fact that they let through a hell of a lot more dust than a dual foam filter does. Id go with a high flow foam filter. Foam lasts a long time and you dont have to take great care when cleaning, just some good degreasing soap (Dawn dish soap) and then rinse it our very well, then let it air dry or blow it off. k&n takes longer to clean too.

I would suggest a good quality foam filter, such as an Uni, and an Outerwear. The Outerwear should keep the sand at bay. The Uni filter flows very well as long as it is serviced as needed, which is no different than the K&N. I use K&N filters in my Buick Grand Nationals and my Ford F-250 but I prefer the Uni and Outerwear for my Banshee. HTH.
