You must have removed # 12 in this pic. Its located just below the dipstick.

I am not sure about the 04 ( igot the 05) but I would think it is the same.
the metal mash strainer is close the the enigne oil drain bolt it is a large flange bolt with a big hex bolt head on it. and it looks like it has 6 reinforsment casting spreading from the hex bolt head outwards on the flange, be carefull when you are removing it, it has spring pressure behind it. you will see the strainer.

the owners manual does not tell you to remove and clean this screen when you do oil changes.
but if you page to the oil change section in your owners manual it should show you this flange bolt next to the oil drain plug.

Hondabuster, I can't find the exact diagram you are referring to, but I'm sure you're correct because it is just below the dipstick. I checked the online version of my owners manual at the Yamaha website and it's identical. -- No mention of the flange bolt other than it appearing in the diagram. Glad I asked, I probably would have thought it was a freeze plug or something.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]
