With a air leak your not going to solve anything by stepping up the jetting a little. What you really need to do is find, and fix the leak. Without doing so, you just delaying the seizure.

Now that I read it again it sounds like you have let the choke on. Did you check that?!

sounds exactly like what my LT250R does, revs by itself and like everyone else said you most likely have an air leak and the engine is getting more air than it needs, plus i have the same problem with the oil in the plug and we rebuilt the top end of it and it still didn't make it any better, so transmission oil has to be making it's way up through the bottom part of your engine, jetting could have something to do with your problem, but shouldn't make too much of a difference, i run the same jetting all year round pretty much i just mess with the air adjustment screw and the idling screw and it always fixed the problem on both of my 250s, i'm not saying that this will fix it, but it could help a little, and in my 2 stroke i always try to run at least 93 octane, except for my Honda i have to run 110 race gas in it. check what kind of spark you are getting too, cause for some reason on the LT250R i have it's sparking around the insulator part of the plug and not where it's supposed to and this is the first time i ever came across something like this, make sure you are getting a nice spark too and it should be a bluish white spark from what my local parts shop told me, he said if not you don't have the right compression, these are just some things to look into.

Sometimes if your reeds are gone it will rev up by itself and then drop down to idle again. Check that.

Go to the left side of ur motor and theres a little round black thing pull to choke push in when warm....I just keep my hand on my pipe until it gets warm the i ride as for the reving out of control i think that it has to do with ur carb make sure ur float aint sticking and clean the petcook on ur gas tank because my was clogged and did the same thing...weird but it worked..
