Default checking a 01 raptor, need help

Im going to look at a 2001 raptor tonight. I talked to the guy and he seemed straight up kind of guy, he said that hes never had any problems with the tranny. What are some things to look for when riding it to tell if the tranny is bad? anything will help guys. I just dont know totally everything about the 01 raptor tranny problems. i know what cosmetically to look for but the tranny is what worries me. thanks

It's kinda hard to tell...They all klunck when you put them in first gear...at least mine does....and they all seem to lunge forward a bit when you start them in gear.....All I do know is...you should pay less for a rappy with an 01 tranny in it....maybe someone else has some better info

Yes we wouldn't want you to LOOSE your tranny. I purchased an 01 for my son. Figure if the tranny goes out we will do some moding of the motor.

No...When I sent it to Bob...I told him to go thru the entire motor including putting an 02 ranny in it and then teflon coating anything that was metal to metal....The 01 tranny was still in good shape but I didn't want to risk anything at that point....

Good move. I keep holding out hope on our 01 but I know it's gonna be tranny time when I dip into the motor.

I also know that the 01 raptors had clutch problems and reverse, maybe someone could give you more details.
