Buying a 05 Kodiak 450 advice
#1
I will be purchasing a new Kodiak 450 4x4 in a few weeks and although I have read quite a few reviews on this atv, I would like to know some true rider reviews on it, pros and cons. Also, how much did you pay for it brand new? Thanks for the advice.

You made a great choice! It will climb a tree if you can hold on. Just for kicks ask the dealer to show you how to lube the rear grease fitting!!! We have been through this alot and the first thing you or your dealer should do is replace the rear grease fittings with some 90 and 45 degree angled ones. You just cant get a grease gun over the stock ones. The rear brake will get dirty and make a dragging noise. Dont freak out, just wash it out and it will go away. That all the problems and there very little.
It's a awesome atv! I got mine Cheaper than anybody else that I've heard of. With Camo and a winch out the door for $5400.
If anybody paid less I would like to hear. Bought mine from Pro cycle in Springfield Missouri. They post there price on there web page and theres no Dealing or whinning to be done. So what are you going to have to pay?

It is a nice atv. I just got done plowing 8 inches of snow with ours here in wisconsin. I would also buy antoher one if i had to it is a great machine. It has 230 miles on it and nothing has gone wrong yet. The only thing that bugs me is the sqeauky rear brake. When my rear barake gets wet it starts sqeauking, but i can live with it. Otherwise excellent machine.

up here in Canada, my machine runs great, i have had it for 4 months now, LOVE plowing snow.... could use a little more weight for moving lots of snow... maybe i just have to get fatter or something , my rear brake squeaks like everyone elses, but whatever... it comes and goes... if i had the $$$$$ i would buy another one ASAP.... us canadians have to pay a little more for our machines for some reason... but i got mine for $10,000 taxes in, with 2 helemts, the winch, the plow, a passenger seat/storage compartment.... so i got quite a bit of stuff all at once... i LOVE it, and wouldn't trade it for ANYTHING!!

Ditto all the above. I'd almost rather ride my Kodiak than my... well, never mind. Scratch that.
I've had no problems at all, other than the "typical" occasional squeeky brake in mud/water, but usually with one quick jump on the binders, it cleans right out and goes away.
The headlights could be brighter, but that's small stuff that's easily upgraded.
I did a lot of research before I bought mine, and I think I came up with the perfect machine for my needs. I couldn't be happier with it.
Even with stock rubber on like Camokodiak450 said, it will climb a tree when you tell it to. The low range and dif lock that some machines don't have, is a huge advantage in trails and deep stuff. It has a good power to weight ratio, is very nimble on tight trails, and is extremely comfortable to ride all day. The seat is the most comfortable of any I've sat on.
All in all, it's a great machine. You won't be disappointed or regret your decision at all.
Go grab it before somebody else does.
Good luck and have fun on it.

my headlights have quit working for some strange reason. the snorkel comes off the belt housing and needs to be tightened to keep it from coming off again and letting water into the belt. my Warn winch solenoid and switch both needed replacing (but that had nothing to do with Yamaha). when you lock in the diff lock, ya gotta shake quad back and forth to get it to lock in (sometimes/most times). Not sure if i like belt drive technology better than gears. otherwise, perfect quad, no complaints.
