I just got back from the dunes with mine yesterday. I had a blast!!! it went up everything I pointed it at with out a prob. I didn't do many "hole" runs.... but I went down into one that has no run room to get out... I tried to dump it in 2nd... wouldn't quit pull it ( it was a steep climb ) so I just dropped it down in 1st and hammered down... the front came up,but I just leaned over the bars a came right out of it. I think why people are saying that the raptor won't pull 2nd like a 400ex out of those is because 1st gear on the raptor is a long as 1st and 2nd on a 400ex.... I don't know just a thought.... I climbed alot of dunes... no probs.... it has plenty of power, you can drop down side hill, cut the wheels and hammer it and it'll climb right out. I am happy with the results. I am running 9 paddle haulers on douglas .160

I think predator has just hit right on it, on dirt any way 1st is as long as 1st and 2nd on a 400ex, so if climbing a dune with a 400ex is 2nd, then just hammer down in first on your raptor.

Predator

Great news, I got my Raptor last week and can't wait to take it to Glamis dunes. I have a couple of questions if you don't mind.

Have you changed anything on the Raptor, like front sprocket, removed the spark arrestor,
cut the snorkel, etc? Also what size tires 20x10x10? How about the front, are you using
the stock front tires? Can you up-shift climbing a tall dune like the Banshees can? and if
so what gear can you get to? 2nd, 3rd? Thanks for any info.

DreamDuner-
Think you could pick me up before you go to Glamis??!?!? hehe. and I think it was Duner97's comment...I've also broken an arm, up here at the cinder pits. Damn 2 foot ditch, Warrior did a complete front flip. So yea, you gotta watch out a lil bit. I love the whoops though!

I am running 20x10x10 haulers ( stayed the same size as stock ) I just got my trackers today, so I was running stockers up front yesterday. I hope the trackers help with turning.... when the tires on the ground the stock ones didn't seem to grab very good. As far as upshifting.... I am not sure if I hit a hill in 5th I was at 5th at the top, if I was in 3rd... it pulled 3rd to the top.... I didn't hammer on it to hard, I only had 1 1/2 tanks of gas through it so I was taking it somewhat easy I am going this sat again so I will experiment around more. I havn't changed anything, all stock, but I am thinking about a 12 tooth up front because on most of the trails 2nd was a bit tall and 1st was a bit short.... but man the beast will lug!! hehe

Hope that somewhat helped I will let you know more next wknd. One thing be prepared to be flagged down all the time, by people wanting to see and ask questions about your quad

PREADETOR YOU NAILED IT!!! I FOUND OUT THE SAME THINGS LAST WEEKEND, IF I ONLY HAD ANOTHER 5-10 H.P. IN MINE, AND A 4 OVER SWING ARM. MY RAPTOR WOULD PROBABLY CLIMB AS GOOD AS MY BANSHEE...
HAMMER DOWN AND CLIMB HARD IN FIRST GEAR.

I have about 18 hours on my Raptor now and I can tell you that the motor is getting stronger the more I ride. When I reported 10 days ago that it wouldn't pull the dunes in second gear, the machine was still tight. I changed to the 12 tooth sprocket, and it will now pull the hills very well, even in second gear. As for up-shifting while climbing, the Raptor does not create the high RPM wheel spin like the Banshee and will not float. But my Raptor was pulling up the dunes this past weekend in second gear and continued to rev with the load. It is more and more impressive with each ride because the motor is beginning to loosen up and pull harder. Also, it is using less gas now.
