Try adjusting your idle screw. If you use the choke does that help?

The air screw is located on the back of your carb on the left side, where the airbox boot attaches. Turing it out increases air into your carb during idle so if its too far out your getting too much air and not enough gas to go with it. Try adjusting it in a turn or so and see if it helps.

If it will start better with the choke then its a sign of a lean condition
