Default I need some input from Grizzly riders

I have a friend that's considering a 2002 Grizzly. The bike is basically new with about 60 miles on it. My question is if this was a solid year for the machine ( first year for the 660 ???) and what he should expect to look for problem wise after some more miles ? I believe it's the limited edition plastic and IRS. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance !

I’d be concerned that it may not have had more than one or two tank-fulls of fuel since as early as July of 2001 when the machine was first available, so the state of the tank, fuel petcock and carburetor may be in question. As a first year model, the machine was pretty solid as far as reliability goes. Some people had issues with fuel overheating (causing vapor lock) if the machine was driven slowly for extended periods of time but there is a heat fighter retrofit kit available from Yamaha that brings it up to the 2004 model year standards...

That was a piped (FMF) and jetted Z400. I've ridden it when it was stock and again after the pipe and I can tell you that adding the pipe really woke that machine up, giving it a lot more low end punch. BTW my 660 Grizzly was not involved in any of those races (the only way I've ever beaten the P650 was an uphill race in snow; he had stock tires & I had 27" 589's so I had a major traction advantage), I was alternating between my Banshee and my Brute Force to give the Z400 and the Prairie 650 some competition...
