Raptor all the way. Raptor is the best for open trails, and open feilds, Z400 is also good at open trails and feilds, but not as good, the YFZ is for MX and stuff, not ment for trails. go with the raptor, then when you mod the raptor, it really wakes up.
i agree, the Raptor would be what i would get. I think i'm the only one who don't see what is so great about the YFZ, all it is, is the YZ450F bike engine stuffed into a quad, i can't see what is so special about it that other quads don't have, the YFZ is geared different is why it beats just about everything in a short run, it's a true MX quad, not one for open fields and straights, though it could be used for that. What is the cost of those YFZ's anyhow weren't they like 8,000 or something like that, it costs like a 1,000 more than the Raptor when the Raptor is faster on top end, i know you all will hate me for this but i'd rather get a Raptor and change the gearing to be as quick as the YFZ if not quicker, that's all the Raptor needs, and how hard was it for Yamaha R&D to figure out how to make a new quad, uhhh probably not too long since they didn't need to design an engine......Don't get me wrong, i'd like to own a YFZ to play on, but i'd rather get the Raptor cause it's cheaper for all the more you are going to use it for. The Z400 is nice too with a cheaper price yet, that if you get a 450 kit for it(preferably the Yosh 450 kit) it will outrun a stock YFZ, or you could just jump up to the 500 kit from Four Stroke Tech and run with modded YFZ's. I would have a hard time choosing, but in the end i would probably go with a Raptor.....just my likings though

Well for one the yfz is wider and sits lower...The raptor sits too high IMO...

yeah man i DO agree with you about that, Yamaha could improve that on the Raptor, it is a bit tippy about high speed turns.

Just add an axle and wheel spacers and you are set... Personally, less than 500 dollars in mods and you have something that can run with the best.

i understand where you are coming from. the yfz is just made for MX unlike the raptor. balance, quick revving, wide, low center of gravity, stock shocks are better than the raptors, jumps better, weight, etc... it does not make the yfz better than the raptor in all situations tho. i think the reason everyone proclaims the yfz is "so amazing" is cuz it really shines in MX. then ppl hear about how great it is and want one cuz they think its the "best." some ppl buy quads cuz they want to be able to beat everyone and have the best atv around. its hard to say one atv is better than another cuz they are all made for different purposes. i happen to like the yfz for the reasons stated above. and i love the way it looks. just the overall feel. i like the raptor too but if i had to decide between the 2 i would get the yfz. i think its all personal opinion if you know the quad and know what your talking about. i dont expect everyone to praise the yfz but it is pretty amazing if you ask me...IMO
