Default Valve adjustment, raptor...

I have never done this on my raptor, and I don't know if the previous owner did, I have beenr riding it for about 20 hours and the guy before for about 5 if that. What does it to when you adjust the valves, and what benefits do I have to doing this, do you have to?

MIke.

you dont want to let your valves go too long

they control the flow in and out of your motor,,,,good idea to keep em in check

check out raptortranny.com on how to do it

its easy to do if you have some basic wrenching knowledge,,,,and a set of feelers

Why is it that you never have to readjust your valves in a car? and you do in a quad?

The intake valves typically need regular attention. They tighten up over time. The classic symptom is a backfire which blows the intake boots off.

Most cars do not need valve adjustment because the valves are opened via a hydraulic lifter. Hydraulics (using the engines motor oil) expand the lifter the proper amount to make contact with the valve stem. There are solid lifter car engine too however, usually racing applications. There are also some hydraulic valve atv engines such as the Polaris 700 Twin. Never needs adjusting. Some atv's and motorcycles such use shims for adjusting and some (most) use and adjusting screw.
