Well, let me start with my situation....I'm pretty experienced as far as riding goes, and currently own a heavily modified 250r. Now I'm looking for a second used quad for about $4-$5k total range. The R I have now is built up extremely well for woods, but I want something for dunes. It seems like everybody has a differ opinion on this matter. The options I am currently considering are

1.LT500 around $2500 and dump about 2k into it for clean-up and suspension...

2.Already modified used banshee, tomee pipes more than likey and will probably put on suspension as well...

or 3.buy another 250r put on 310 kit and suspension...

The reason I need suspension is because I love to fly in the air so I want the balance and soft landings, but on the other hand also want the 50 to 70 mph up hill speed in just a few seconds. Now maintenance would definately be a consideration and I don't want to have to rebuild but maybe once a year.... I also will probably be doing 70% dunes and 30% woods or track riding. So far sounds to me like go for the 310R, but if this is the case...I do not want to be smoked in the dunes by anything...unless it is a dune only machine, for instance a 370 long rod banshee with nos. So that leads me to another question of how differ are these machines in the dunes. I have heard that the lt500 is awesome in the dunes, but because of the wide front end will probably be taking out trees in the woods.

The current R I ride is running cool head, LRD pipe, rad valve, mild port-polish,and still not fast enough for dunes for me.

I have been known to bounce back and forth between
on road and off road. I just can't seem to go fast enough off road, but I have heard this being a common delima for on road racers. Sure would be nice if they would take my old 96 gsxr 750 and just make a 250R with the 750 motor stuffed in it...say 120hp..

Anybody got any opinions...which quad for the dollar????

I say you put your gsxr 750 motor in your 250R!
I'd go with the Banshee as well. They're fun duners

that is a hard choice to make. Probally the best choice for you may be different for someone else.
It might be hard but if you can ride each one and see for yourself.
the lt lots of power but more difficult to move around in the air. The banshee easy to find used, lots of power and flies well, stock suspension isnt all that bad. The r well its an r and you know a r.
I like to switch back and forth from on my banshee and r.

'Shee--buy one already set-up with aftermarket shocks (fronts and rear).

There's nothing like having 9200 RPMs (right NOW)-
right between your legs.

That's why the 2-stroke is Royalty in the Dunes--
and The Banshee is King.
