26" Mud Lites on an '05 Kodiak 450?
#1
Is anyone running 26x10 front and 26x12 rear on one of these? I've heard great things about these being a good all around tire but wanted to see how they perform on the Kodiak. I'll be buying C-Series Type 6 wheels if I get them. Do they sling a lot of mud being wider than the stock tires?
Thanks!

Hey BucknBass. I have heard when you buy itp or any aftermarket rims they are "offset" so any wheel you put on them will stick out about 3 inches from the edge of your fender. So if you put on say the mudlites which already fling some mud you will get very muddy. Unless maybe if you had over fenders which to my knowledge arn't available yet. I am going to get mudlites eventually. I only have about 100 miles on my 05 kodiak 450. I think I will stick with the 25" mudlites though with my stock rims. Don't want mud and don't want to lose any power. My stock tires already climb some amazing hills even with snow. So I imagine the mudlites even in the 25" size could only be as good if not better. Plus I don't want my ride to be tractor like. I want it as smooth as possible. The only other tire I thought of getting were the ITP holeshots but they don't look to agressive at all. I like the stock tire design. They seem fine. I think they are maxxis? Wonder if there are any like that but a little more agressive?

I've thought about the mud slinging aspect too. I may very well go with the standard size tires for this readon. I would like to change out the wheels, I guess I'll see how much farther the wheels make the tires stick out. I think you're right about the over fenders not being available yet.
Have you found any good sites with accessories for the 2005 Kodiak 450?

26|" it how tall the tire is so there for it will not stick out any farther 25X10X12 means that tire its 25" tall 10" wide and rim size is 12 " by getting taller tire like 26 or 27 you will get more grund clerance not more mud on you ... i got 26X12X12 on the back and becouse its only 1 "on each side that the tire is wider it looks fat but still fits in the fendrers and not sticks out.... dont go fatter then 12 on the back and 9 up front( easyer steering ) as for a tallnes 27 will fit easy withought rubbing any where and you get extra 2 " of clerance

Paco - I know what the tire sizes mean Did you use your stock wheels?
First off you get 1/2" extra ground clearance for each 1" taller you go. The wheeler comes with 8" wide on front and 10" wide on the back. So, when you go 26x10x12 on front and 26x12x12 on rear it's 2" wider on both front and rear. Add that to the offset aftermarket wheels give you and the tires are outside of the fenders.
I might go with 10" and 12" wide tires if they fit the stock wheels. Otherwise I think I might go with stock sized tires.

Hi BuckNBass,
No I have looked around and there really isn't much for the 05 kodiak. I mean u can find some universal sites with stuff for ATV but nothing specifically for the 05. I think maybe after the newness wears off they will come ut with more stuff for the 05. The only things I have found are from Yamaha directly and even there selection is scarce.

I have a Kodiak 450 and put the ITP 589's on them. If you go with Mudlites, you should upgrade to at least 27's because the 26's have a 3/4 inch tread depth and the 27's have an inch and a quarter tread depth, which will be noticable. The 589's are awesome... a lot better than stock, yet they do throw a little more mud being just slightly wider (but with a LOT more depth to the tread).
