Kodiak 400 vs. 450
I'm still deciding on what utility quad to get. I have read alot of great posts on the new Kodiak 450, but haven't seen many on the new 400. I was wondering if anyone would know the power difference between the 400 vs. 450. There's only 20 cc difference between the two. I don't know why Yamaha calls it a 450 when it only has 421 cc, kind of a stretch. I'm leaning more towards the 450 simply because of the added features it has lock a diff lock, low range, and digital package. I just wanted to know if there would be much of difference in power. Also, can you get these quads to wheelie? Just curious.

My 400 Kodiak has PLENTY of power.......You can sling the back end around easily and power through some awesome mud.....I seriously doubt the wheelie thing, mine is very front-heavy especially with the winch. IF you want to wheelie alot i suggest a sport quad

Youre gonna have to either tug hard on the handlebars or stand the the rear rack to get a wheelie, they accelerate pretty stong, but the front end wont come up on its own.
Theres very little power difference between them, its the things you mentioned that make the 450 more capible, especially the locker in front. Thats what made me pick the 450 over the 400.

I have an 05 450 and an 03 400 , I can tell you that there is no difference in the power dept. when you compare the 2 quad.
the extra cc of the 450 (21 cc) gets eaten up by the added weight of the low gear and what not is added to it.
also keep in mind that having the IRS onmy 450 and the split axles also eats up extra power , vs the solid fixed axle on my 03 400.
on the 05s you got IRS on both so there is not much diffrence there.
they seem to pull equally, my 400 seems to be a bit more snappy or it may even pulls stronger.
keep in mind that my 03 400 has a solid rear axte , No IRS.
the 400 is also lower to the ground and corners better because of the solid axle, but when it comes to rough stuff my 450 with the IRS rules , same thing when it needs to climb on rought stuff.
I rarelly use the dif loc, only used it in the snow so far, I am not a mudder.
the low gear comes handy when I pull a small utility trailer up hill ( to park it behind my house )
if you got the exra $$ , go for the 450, it will be easier to sell when you want to get rid of it.
other than that there is not much difference, not in the power department.
