Starter Problem on 727 Raptor
I put in the grizzly battery in this weekend, what a bear. I also put in my decompression pin shaft in 180 out so it was always sticking out. Not on purpose, I fixed it this weekend also. But since the new piston went in the motor is alot harder to turn over at TDC. When I turn it over by hand to adjust the valves, I can feel the difference. I was told by my mechanic that you can turn the motor over and grind what is needed to be done to fit the 727 (no need to break the case). JM 2 cents.

IMO...
You really shouldn't have any problems turning your motor over if every thing is installed correctly. All it takes is to leave the key on for a couple days on the raptor and your battery will be damaged enough to make it hard to start.
My Raptor has never started as well as it does now with my 686 11:1. You just tap the button and it fires immediately, even when cold.
If your decompression pin is 180 out, the engine will tap like nuts in a can. You can even hear it ringing in the header pipe. You will lose significant performance, but it should still start easily. There has to be a loose or corroded wire, or too tight of a bore if you are still having trouble.
I don't see how a 727 would be that much different if the decomp pin is in properly. Hot Cams allows the use of the stock pin. It is possible that the dude didn't put it in. You are supposed to take it out of the stock cam and put it in the hot cam. If you have your old cam, see if the pin is in it. If it is there, then that's your problem.

I installed a new decompression mechanism, new starter, new grizzley battery as well. My 10.75/1 686 barely turns over. What a pain in the rear.
I installed the Grizzly battery on my 14:1 686 and it starts fine. The stock battery wouldn't hardly crank it, but the 03' grizz battery works wonders.

The only thing about doing the 727 that I did not reallize was you have to split the case and have the cases machined in order for the 727 sleeve to fit. I have an extra set of cases that have been machined for the 727 sleeve if anyone is interested.

Starter Problem on 727 Raptor
this is from a post I did awhile back, good luck and keep us posted!!
ok found the best battery for high compression 686 Raptors!!!!!
Yuasa YTX20H-BS
it's the same size as the grizzly battery but it has 310 cranking amps instead of 270, and the positive terminal is in the right side instead of the left. I called my local cycle shop and they quoated me $88.95. So if you got starting problems this will be the end of that!!!
