Default YZ450F vs. YZ250R

Whats faster, a YZ450F or a YZ250. My friend thinks his YZ250 is faster than a YZ450F. I was Just wondering about what bike would accelerate the fastest and which one tops out higher.

I would say it is going to come down to the rider. Both put out about the same power, but just delivers in two different ways. Top speed doesn't matter.

i agree. their made to compete agasint each other. they both have about equal power to weight ratio's. its more a matter of what you like better, 2-stroke power, or 4-stroke.

YZ250 will win, they weigh a whole lot less than the 4 stroke and the 250 has that wicked 2 stroke zip.

I've raced a piped 250 with a piped YFZ. It was tit for tat. Do the cam mod and it's no contest.

Now a days there is less than a 10 pound difference. And that 2-stroke zip is just that, a zip of speed. While the thumpers keep pulling. In the end there pretty equal it is just 2 different styles.

And this is coming from a guy who races a 2-stroke

Pretty equal but put them on an uphill or where there is less than 100% traction.....Game over 4-stroke wins. I've raced 2 strokes and 4 strokes and the thumper will win a drag 99% of the time.

I HAVE A 2004 YZ 450F AND HAVE RACED BOTH A NEW YZF 450 AND YZ 250 AND I CAN SAY BOTH ARE BETTER RIDERS THAN ME, THE YZ 250 TOOK ME ON THE HOLE SHOT BUT BY THE TIME I GOT INTO 3RD GEAR I WAS PAST HIM AND NEVER LOOKED BACK, THE YZF 450 I BEAT EVERYWHERE, BUT IT WAS ALWAYS FAIRLY CLOSE TO ME, FROM START TO TOP SPEED. THEY ARE ALL FASTER THAN THEY PROBABLY SHOULD BE, BUT THATS WHY WE LOVE THEM RIGH ? LOL

I had to look it up.. you were right. 9lbs diff! I was pretty surprised. I thought the 450 was heavy.
