i agree with ozarkmaster. kfx or a z would be good. if u dont "need" reverse then id say put some money into ur 400 or get a warrior and put some money into that. my dads warrior holds its own in wooded trails. my blaster with the mods i have ( minus the 14 tooth sprocket) beat a raptor 350 4 out of the 4 races we did. and it was long enough race to get into 6th gear to. there was a 400ex that was racein us also and he beat be my like 6-7 bike lenghts, and a stock 450r that beat him by about 4-5 bike lenghts. the 400 had a full pipe and tires, thats all i could tell was doen to it, it might have been jetted. the raptor 350 was stock. if u pipe jet adn get a air filter and tires for a raptor 350 it would do prtty good. id say if u need reverse get a newer warrior get a pipe jet kit filter rear skid plate and tires and ud be happy with it.

Hey 2FAST4URASS,
When you put that exhaust on your 350 raptor, did it seem to stay in the gears a little longer? My dad and I just got two raptor 660s, and my mom a raptor 350, when I ride hers, it seems like i go through the gears way too fast. Then again, I'm not all that familiar with it, I'm trying not to rev it too much since we are still breaking them in. I was just wondering if the exhaust allowed you to rev it a little higher.
Sorry for getting off topic, as for the main question of this thread, I probably wouldn't go from a 400ex to a raptor 350. Although the 350 is a great bike, I think you would be disappointed because you would be giving up some power. I would keep an eye out for a used z400 after reading your post, the raptor 660 and Z400 were the first quads that came to mind. You may have to pay a little more for a Z, but it would be well worth it. You're right, a 660 might be getting a little spendy, but they are great for trails, no trouble at all getting the front wheel off the ground. I'm in love with mine!

You know i forgot about the frame problems with the z400 they fixed it on the 05 i think its a problem with the front shock mounts so i would scratch that and as i said i would not rule out the raptor 350 but there a little costly for a 350 and as fasterblaster said a warrior wouldnt be bad alots of people knock on them but they hold there own and 400ex's are not as fast as people would like to think them to be but the 400'zs 400kfx's seem to be a good bit faster but personaly if i had it to do over again i would get nothing less than a 450 or a banshee 350 but dont get me wrong i love my raptor 350 i can easily ride my freinds azz on his 400ex but i just want more power lots more lol.

BOOSH71 about the pipe yea it did help broaden the gear range a little !! in stock form you do go through the gears fast as he!! and that is a good yet bad thing depending on were your rideing but dont be scared to rev through the gears because it pulls pretty hard threw all the gears it just gains and gains give that a try next time and the pipe with the dyno jets gave it a great gain on mid range and bottom end. I would like to get a few other mods to get a little more power so i can go up a tooth on the front to make the gear range more broad.

If your a smaller person go with the rap350, if your over 140 or so than go with the z, just depends on power to weight ratio. The z and rap660 will have way too stiff suspension for a smaller rider, so expect them to be tippy and ride a bit high for your liking if your a small person. You can really make anything comfortable, it will take quite a bit of extra $$$ for suspension though. I would say any of the 400's over the rap660 for trails, the rap is really top heavy and won't hang through the turns like the others.

lol, I weigh about 120, and I just got a raptor 660... Oh well, I'm young so the stiffer ride doesn't bother me too much, plus I like to jump. As for being top heavy, so far it hasn't bothered me, and for trail riding the slightly narrower raptor 660 may be better for you. Yea, it would be tough to find a z400 under 4000.
Thanks for the info on the raptor 350, 2FAST4URASS.
