The correct tension on every chain drive is when the suspension goes thru the full range of travel the chain never becomes tight but just close to tight at the tightest position. You often need help to pull the suspension down while checking chain tension. Also check tension at various positions of chain to be sure you are checking when at the tightest position because when chain and sprockets wear the wear is not always even. Tension needs to be checked and adjusted when chain is clean and lubed.

when your sitting on the bike, reach down and there should be 1/2" up and down of slack in the chain.

push down and bottom out the rear suspension, since this is where the chain will be at its tightest point, this is where you want to adjust the chain tension, you want the chain to have a 1/4 to 1/2 inch of slack, since this is where your chain will be the tightest if you have slack here your chain will not break when your suspension bottoms out!

dont jack it up and do that. because when you sit on it the chain tightens up.

youll rip it right off.
