Default need input on Wolverine and Big bear.

me again. im looking at buying a new 4x4 utility/sport quad. and 2 of the 3 models i primarily like are the Wolverine and the Big bear 400. i just want to know how they both handle and how much fun can be had on them. i dont care about top speed since i dont drag race at all, and there are no strait-aways where i ride. im comparing them to the Eiger-400-4x4-manual. (i would go for a kodiak, but i dont want another Automatic). if i did go for the Wolverine, than i would get a 424 unlocker the same day i got the quad. what type of power can i expect? how quick are they, how do they 4x4 in the mud and snow, and how reliable/dependable?

so im looking for Input on both these quads (wolverine and Big bear 400). any info is appreciated.

what is good about them, and what might be not-so-good about them.

thanks for reading this......

Pmanx8,

I haven't ridden a big bear 400, but I can tell you about the wolvy. It is a very dependable machine, and has lots of pottential to go through the mud and snow, I highly reccomend a set of 589's to do that. As to power it has a pretty good amount, I can ride decent wheelies. Top end is high 50's. It also handles very well on the trail.

As the first threads say, it is a very fun reliable quad, especially since you are going to get the 424 right away. The suspension is comfortable yet supportive enough to land small jumps fairly gracefully if that is your thing. In the mud, it holds it's own, but as with many quads it needs some better tires to really shine. There are tons of aftermarket mods available as well. I think you'll find that out of every 100 wolvy owner's, there are only a couple that are not completely happy.

hey thanks alot for all the input. one good thing i notice with the wolvy is it has the warrior engine, i hear its a good and tough motor. like i said huge power and top speed are no concern to me, just fun and reliability is what matters. im still looking for info on Big bear tho! thanks again

I've got a 05 Big Bear and love it. However I got it for plowing snow, hauling firewood and other items around the homestead as well as some trail riding.

If you're just going to be just trail riding, go with the Wolverine. If you’re going to work it, go with the BB.

Hope this helps.

Sleepy,

You are right there is a xt and a at model 589. I personnally have the at 589's, but I can't tell you the difference between the 2. Actually the new model year 589's by itp are called m/s and titan's are called m/t. They look the same to me and it is probably a marketing gimmick, but who knows they could have changed them. As to them being too aggressive, no, I don't think they are to aggresive by any means as long as you stay within reason when choosing the size. I have 25's and that is the size I would reccomend to any other wolvy owners with interest in what I think is the best mud/snow tire that will still be smooth enough on the trail.

Anyway it looks like you still have the stock tires and believe me,you don't know what a wolvy can do until you put some aftermarket tires on it. That is JMO.

i got a buddy that has a big bear.seems to be a strong quad but to me it's kind of slugish and slow but it has b-lls i have to give it that.now a wolverine on the other hand i look at it like a warrior with 4 wheel drive i had a blast on another buddies of mine.me my self i ride a warrior and love it but sometimes the clutch gets on my nerves i would pick the wolverine but ride a big bear first you may like it.
