Re-Livin the Glory Days....

scooter... thanks for the input man... i really didnt realize the craptor comment would cause so much chaos.. lol... or i obvioulsy wouldnt have made it. anyways... dont get me wrong, the DRZ400 is a great bike... and in a straight line its fast... but in the woods its just not going to be as fast as a quad i dont think... there isnt enough usable power there to do much good. im going to re gear it.. and put a good set of knobbies on it and see what it does. i had thought about the predator a while back... i really like it.. but i didnt know of i could find one for 3k or not. i knew i should have been able to find a good warrior or 300EX or something for my budget ... i bought my last 300EX for 1100$ lol.. so it didnt break the bank or anything. i figure i would wait and buy one this fall or winter... normally thats when they get cheap around here. thanks for the info man.. i really appreciate it. and agian.. to anyone else reading this post... the drz400 is an awesome bike for what its intended to do. 60mpg... tops at 110mph... but its not a full woods bike... and its not a full blown strieet rider either.. but its an awesome in between bike. just a little low on power in my opinion. i guess i still have plenty of time to think about it. i just figured with all the new quads comming out i could get a warrior, 300ex, 400ex, or maybe even a Z400 really cheap. with all the rumors about the new 450 commin out and the 2 that already exist. who knows.. thanks agan for the info. keep ridin! later!

hondaboy: I didnt take offense to the craptor comment, im sorry i came off a little sour there in my previous post. Your comment just seemed like some of the others on here, immature kids getting on here and trying to start some crap. I now understand that it wasnt meant that way. Sorry about some of my comments earlier, i just kind of spouted off, you know how that is.
Anyways......if you get a chance to ever ride one of the newer bikes please do it, they are alot better than the older ones. Stepping off my 89 warrior and onto my 01 raptor is like hopping from a ford escort to a alcohol street stock dragster. The change in power, handling, and suspension is rediculous.
I also can reccon with you, minimum wage jobs suck, but youll never move up in the world if you dont go through that stage and get it out of the way right now while your young. Also if your going to have 3K to put into a quad this summer you may want to consider selling your bike this spring and looking for a used bike with the money. i picked up my raptor for less than 3K...2800 exactly. I got a heck of a deal but theres always someone out there who needs the money and not the bike.
the z-400 is a great bike too, unbelievable power from stock form. Ive never really been too fond of suzuki but my buddy got one and i rode it and it shocked the he11 out of me. Very torquey and powerful.
good luck with finding a bike and keep us posted, good luck.

Well, it has been a few years since the minimum wage days for me, but I bought a 85 LT250R fall of 03 ($1300.00)just to have something cheap and fast and make sure I really wanted to get back into the sport after a 13 year layoff. If you like two strokes, I am pretty sure you could find a clean Honda 250R that has seen some aftermarket massage in your price range also. With the new 450's and new production classes in mx racing, everyone is dumping there 250r's for new metal. Last year it was common to see a nice 250r going for upwards of 5K, but prices have dropped quite a bit since. That Honda doesn't give up much if anything in handling, and will go as fast as anything else in the woods. Polaris has made a ton of improvements on the Pred since 03, and you can get brand new leftover 04's for under 5K right now. The earlier models aren't as desirable, but can be had cheaply and are still fast fast fast.
