Hey everyone, question from a newbie 4-wheeler doctor.

I have a 00 grizzly with a knock that sounds like its from the valve train. Sounds like a bell ringing with a small train in the background. Thats the only way I can describe it... We adjusted the valves last night with one somewhat crucial question.

Do you change the crank position in between adjusting exaust stroke and intake stroke and if so is it the mark after they have started to close (pull up)?

That seemed to go ok but it is blowing puffs of smoke while running and the sound seems to get louder as it gets hotter.. that may be my imagination but it seems that way. It also seems to over heat quickly and the oil temp shut-off kicks in. This atv was taken from me and run extremely hard without my knowledge and ever since then it has had this knock and smoke problem.

4 years ago I started taking off the valve cover only to strip an allen screw.. any thoughts on getting that out ?

Otherwise.. what should I be looking for... worn valve guides/springs ?
