Default Problem with 99 Banshee

My buddy and I were riding yesterday and his Bansee got stuck in 3rd gear. He can go up to forth but no further up and back to third, but no further down. Anyone heard of this? If so, what is the fix for it? Thanks guys!

Matt

Sounds like one of the shifting forks is bent...... Or maybe a damaged shift shaft return spring.... Sounds like your buddy's going to need to split the case's and find out...

I was hoping it would be somethign simple. That sucks that the cases have to be split. I have rebuilt engines. Is the splitting the cases and tranny rebuild a do it yourselfer?

Splitting the case's is not that hard. It just takes a little time and patience. Tell your buddy to pick up a Clymer manual, and then he can do the job himself.

I dont remember spliting the case to replace the shifter shaft. You do have to remove the stater caover to get to the retaing screws. If I remeber right you do have to pull the stater too. Then the shaft pulls out one side. The spring in the fork is usually the problem. Used to be less than 30 bux for the part but its been years since ive replaced one. It did happen to me but it was stuck in second gear. Not to hard but the adjustment can be tricky. Buy the Banshee Manual and read up on it. It will help a bunch
Its been a while so enFORCER may be right.

Thanks guys. WE looked over the Clymer manual last night. Doesnt seem to hard. I guess we will see what happens this weekend when we tear into it. They worst than can happen is we take it to the dealer with a box of parts. LOL

Bent forks is a common problem with the banshee's. If you do the work yourself your out about 50 bucks
