98 modded warrior w/ bad dead spot
#1
ok guys heres the deal.....i have a 98 warrior, bored 40 w/ wiseco 10.25-1 compression,k&n w/ no box lid, dg xcellerator pipe, and dyno jet kit. The problem is that it doesnt pull off of the top end it just gets louder and makes noise but doesnt really accelerate like it should. I have had all kinds of jetting problems and and need to get it back to running as fast as it should. It has a 150 Main jet and the needle clip is i think on the fourth notch. The headpipe gets plenty hot like it is lean but it almost smells rich. Plug is about the right tan. What i dont know is if my jetting is still messed up, something in the valves is wrong or possibly rings ??(doesnt smoke). Its only been about 6 months since i had the valves re-ground and seals put in, had new rings then also. The exhaust has had less than 2 hrs on it. When i re-built everything it ran like a top and i could ride w/ my buddies 416ex pretty close. I ran it one hot day and it got very hot, the old oil(from the smoking) in the old exhaust got hot and cought fire( no damage) so thats when i replaced the exhaust. It has not ran right since that day and is a dog now, wont even pull the wheels in 2nd, please help with any suggestions as im ready for warm weather and ready to ride thanks guys

thanks speedy2222, with all of that setup how large of a main jet should i be running? also i was thinking could i have messed up a valve in any way by letting it get hot?? I have a couple of free days this week and i may pull the head to see if they are ok. Any other suggestions??

I had a dead spot on my one warrior because the main was to lean, no one had the right jet i needed around me so i drilled the main jet hole out a little bigger(I wouldn;t recommend that) but it solved my problem till i can get the correct jet. Try getting jets that are a few sizes larger, get a few different sizes so you can dial it in correctly. I think the needle should be on the third notch, the rich smell could be from your pilot being rich which could be the needle in the wrong place.

well i was thinking and i may have found a deeper problem than the jetting.....I think i may have burnt an exhaust valve so i will be pulling the head this weekend to check that out and if thats not it then ill go with more jetting thanks
