Question about oil in the Raptor
#11
I am going to use Mobil 1 Synthetic (15w50) on the next oil change of my DS. It is broken in now for sure, so I will find out if there is a problem with the clutches and synthetics.
I think Bombardier just says no synthetics because it is easier to say that then explaining which synthetics to use, or they just don't want the engine to last too long....
If I end up having to buy new clutches, we will all know...

I have the oil. Planning on changing it this weekend.
Don't know about synthetics and long term storage. Never heard of this. Since we ride year around here, it isn't really something to worry about.
I thought the recommended procedure for storing any engine was to drain the oil anyway.
I don't see how regular oil sitting in the crankcase protects an engine any better than a synthetic.

A guy I work with here in Iowa use to race street bikes out in California. He swears by Mobil Synthetic oil in a 4-stroke. He also said that it is just a way for the manufacture to push their own oils. Not for sure if his street bike clutchs are the same as what is in a quad but he never experienced any slippage. Very smart guy and has been around racing all his life. I trust his knowledge.

Gabe...I recently went to 10W40 synthetic for my winter riding. I run Honda 20W50 in the summer. Will it be OK to go back to the non synthetic after running with the synthetic for 4-5 months?? I still have about 5 quarts of the Honda, so I don't want to waste it. Also, I don't run synthetic in my CBR either...no probs. I just figure you can't get much better than liquid Honda. Thanks, Drew.

Yes, it should be ok. There is no more danger in switching back and forth between synthetic and non-syn than switching from Valvoline to Pennzoil. The two can also be mixed unless it is specifically not recommended by the oil manufacturer (although I don't know why a person would want to do this).

I too am going to use the Yamalube, but I just want to make sure that the Yamaha Extended Warranty doesn't get voided for using Non-Yamaha lubricants. (I don't suspect that they would, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.)
Isn't Yamalube Synthetic anyway?
On a lighter note, I run Synthetic Oil in my Pickup truck, and I was told that the Synthetic Oil's flow better when cold than the conventional oils. Again, I don't know if this is truth or fiction, but hey, it looks good on paper.
