Blaster Engine Noise Help!
Hello,
My 2001 Blaster starts and runs good. Although it starts easy, usually at 1 to 3 kicks depending on engine temperature, I'm sure it needs a new set of rings because it should require a harder kick to start it. My concern is, when the engine idles I can hear a ticking sound. When riding it up a hill the ticking gets louder. My best guess is that the rod or bearings or both are getting bad. Any ideas would be appreciated. If it is the rod, would it be difficult for me to press it apart and replace it with a new rod kit?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

All blasters make some noise, it is when it gets excessive that problems start to happen. Before you open it up do a compression test, it will give you a good idea of what condition your top end is in (a leak down test at this time would also be a good idea). If the top end is wearing out there is a good chance that the noise you are hearing is piston slap. If it is the rod, it is best to have it done by a shop ............unless you have the proper equipment to do it right.
