Raptor Popping and Sputtering
#1
Well I am back again with a little situation that is driving me nuts. Today i went with a buddy of mine to get his new Z-400, we got back to my house, put a tach on his new ride and starting breaking it in. Well i decided to get my raptor out and play a little, but when i went to start it all it did was pop and sputter when i tried to rev it. It is acting like the parking brake is on.
I thought that maybe the parking brake limiter was stuck or gone bad so i popped the switch out of the clutch perch, and then i followed it down to the wiring cluster under the raditor and unplugged the white connecter that was attached tot he parking brake switch. Tried to start it again and the same thing is still happening. Idles ok, but when you go to rev it, it pops, sputter, and blows black smoke. I just rode this thing two days ago and it ran perfect, all i have done since then was clean the air filter and reinstall it. I am at a loss, could this be the reverse limiter acting up? How can i tell? What can i do to get it running again. I would like to keep all the lights and things working. Any Ideas, you guys on here are my ever present source of info, dont let me down this time. Thanks Ty

I know the problem. The parking brake sensor is bad .It is located behind the left headlight. It's a 2 wire barrel plug.Just unplug and problem solved. This is a common problem with yamaha

Follow the wire's that come out of the parking brake(should be middle set). They end at a plug behind the left headlight(i think the wire's are black and green)and unplug. If that don't work ,sorry i just had that same exact problem with my 02,sounded like same symptoms.

That is really bugging me is that two days ago when i rode it into the garage and pulled the airfilters off it was running like a champ, and now it isn't running right at all.

This may be way out in left field but could you have oiled your K&N to much? Could restrict enough air to not let it rev up.

I will try to take the filter off tomorrow morning and see if that helps, I cleaned it like i always do, but i might have over oiled it, who knows, at this point i will try anything.
Keep sending me ideas guys.
